Keith Foti: PRESS

Vanessa Bryston

I was surfing around MySpace one day and I stumbled upon Keith’s page. ‘Hair God’…that caught my attention! I am one of those ladies who happens to cherish her long hair so to find a stylist that claims ‘Hair God’ is a dream come true for me. As I was reading his page, I decided to turn the speakers on so I could check out the song on his page. Completely oblivious to the fact that it was actually KEITH singing! I sent him an email asking about the artist on the song – LO and BEHOLD I found the answer I was looking for!

‘Wide Awake’ is the title of the track and you have GOT to head over to his page and check it out! Keith has some very impressive clients and it thanks to these fellows that he has some amazing music to rip his vocals to. Velvet Revolver’s drummer Matt Sorum plays the drums on this single; Billy Duffy from The Cult plays all of the killer kick ass guitar solos & Weezer’s bassist Scott Shriner contributed to this hit as well.

Working his hair magic in a salon in Beverly Hills Keith says that “I would love to write & record more than anything in the world”. Looking for a band that is serious about music & people he can co-write with, Keith takes every day for what it is worth and never looses sight of his goals in music.

“Really dramatic & real life emotional stuff like broken hearts, people dying, real life events” is what inspires him to write & create music. “Music is how I vent my thoughts, I like to make music people can relate to” says Foti.

Writing since the age of 18, Keith is keeping it real by staying with his career as a Stylist for the time being. He was at an event with papa Roach in April making the band look stylish as always!

Check out his killer track ‘Wide Awake’ and if you are fortunate enough to live close enough to Beverly Hills – drop in to see Keith and ‘get your hair did!’

Good luck Kith and keep making the Rockers looking hot!
"Let them brush your rock and roll hair," sang Ric Ocasek in 1978. New Jersey native Keith Foti is doing just that- blending a career in hairstyling with making great music.

Keith started workin in SOHO doing hair at John Dellaria while performing acoustically at many local bars, clubs and street corners. The music eventually lead Keith to LA where he recorded his first CD, ALL THAT STILL REMAINS, releasing it on his own Powerline label. Keith also joined Giuseppe Franco Salon in Beverly Hills where a friendship with guitarist Stevie D. of Buckcherry led to Keith stlying the entire band for the CRAZY BITCH video.

SInce then, he has had the great fortune to style and befriend Duff McKagan (Velvet Revolver, Guns N' Roses, Camp Freddy) and Duff's Camp freddy band mates; Billy Duffy, Chris Chaney and Donovan. Keith's current client roster also includes a star studded, red carpet of rock musicians including Matt Sorum and Scott Wieland (Velvet Revolver, Camp Freddy), Billy Morrison (Camp Freddie, Circus Diablo) Brett Scallions (Fuel, The Xs, Camp Freddy), Rick Richards (Georgia Satallites) and Chuck Kentis (Rod Steward).

"I've also recently met and styled Mickey Rourke, who was referred to me through the salon and Aimee Mann who I have to say, is the coolest chick ever."

EXCLUSIVE RIGHT: KEITH FOTI speaks
Interview with the friend of Jeff Buckley

Interview collection gives: Emanuele Tamagnini

We could launch this interview like sensational scoop… a type “four to chiacchiere with the last person who has seen Jeff alive Buckley…” or things of this kind. But we would have dealt meat in scato it for thread to the green pepper. The truth that you will read more ahead is that one than a boy who has little it wants to speak about its adventure, of Memphis, of that period beside the angel Buckley also because attempt to finish a book on those days that changed the life to many persons. The curiosity to trace Keith Foti, than the lamented musician it met just in the city of the Tennessee, is been born from weeks lived with one strongly nostalgia and the right memory of its premature passing appeared just on these pages. Keith Foti is a musician and an estimated barber in the world of the show - an authentic one “hair god” like loves to define itself. The only solista album laughed them to the 2004 (“All That Still Remains”) published on its Powerline label and coadiuvato in study from musicians navigates like Scott Shriner (bassista of the Weezer) and Chuck to you Kentis (tastierista of Rod Stewart).
While in foundation the function repeat is nailed on “Forget Her”, the hands are melted on the keyboard, like the cardiac pulsations when it knows them the end of the piece, woven from the organ between inspiration, lirismo and suffering…

Then Keith tells to us a little you… from where you come… musical yours background…

They have grown to Fairview in the New Jersey and to the age of five years they are moved to me to Bergenfield where I have lived until the eighteen. Two years after I was to New York in a small apartment/study of Manhattan. Therefore I have begun to play like solista in the small clubs and the bars around to the city. My infancy has been characterized from music rock. The first disc was “Destroyer” of the Kiss… had approximately four years, my father carried to me in a disc store of the zone, to Cliffside Park exactly, and the look remained glue on that cover! All those make up and that escape from hell hit my imaginary one… but I listened to it equally. My mother, instead, was one fanatical of the Beatles that listened to all the day. Without a doubt it has been a great infuence that I have always carried with me, then are arrives Ozzy, Van Halen, Ac/Dc and a formation to you of year-end formations '80 like the Jane's Addiction. Here just the band of Perry Farrell she has represented an enormous inspiration in that period… until when they have not become a pochino older to return to Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

When you have understood that you could begin to write songs…

To the age of eighteen years. Hard one of my life therefore taken a guitar was a period much and composed the first piece that called “Would You”. I had interrupted a sentimentale history and the only way in order to ask excuse that girl me seemed to be one song. From that day music, my music, is often served for lenire the pain of moments not too much happy

29 May 1997 you were with Jeff Buckley to Memphis… what memories of that funesto day

The day that Jeff drowned has been the worse one of my life. The confusion, the sadness and the desperation are still present and difficultly cancellabili. E' that type of experience that always changes the persons in order. I am working to a book that I tells the last days with Jeff… therefore… beh dispiace but I cannot very add other on this argument… sorry!

At least some word in order to remember it…

I augur myself that he remains always here in order with we. Ringrazio still the Getlteman in order to have had the fortune to pass those moments with he, memory its incredible energy, the magic that succeeded to create around. Using a metaphor I could say that its force can be represented from a pot in boiling on one stews… that sbuffa and spark… but you will not be able to never have the opportunity to stop that fire. Music of Jeff speaks alone. It has changed to my life and that one of hundred of persons

Also your risente of that infuence… is much deep evocativa and… and then one curiosity: who is “Gloria”?

“All That Still Remains” is like a full album of photographies of memories and very precise musical inspirations. I wanted to realize a disc that it could paint every thing you had seen and listened until then… because when it watches behind you succeed to only focus the memories. I wanted to give to people mine ritratto: who is and what has been my life. Gloria has a double quantity meant in the song. E' an other way to define the heroin. The drug is like a girl who succeeds to carry “outside turns to you” makes you to sballare. In the piece I speak about before the time that I have tried the heroin… was a girl who walked outside from the door of the bath… called Gloria. I do not know that fine it has made but I know that the sound of the song is my way to describe what test going itself “outside” with that drug

There are innovation for your label?

Not, for the moment nobody. The Powerline does not have intention to publish an other solista album of Keith Foti… ah ah ah!

You appear in the documentary “Amazing Grace” dedicated to the last days of Jeff Buckley… memories what you said in that occasion?

It thinks that I have not never had the opportunity to see that film! Six years interviewed me ago and frankly I do not have idea of what I told!!!

Last question regards Los Angeles… com'è the life in California… and if you want to leave some word our readers…

The life to Los Angeles is a continuous divertimento! The time is optimal, the girls are delicious and every evening is one large band from some part in city. E' a lot exciting to be hair stylist for the celebrities in a this place… life is without a doubt more interesting.
I would want ringraziare anyone will read this interview and if someone wants to send some “beautiful Italian to me girl”… us of they are little from these you leave! My mother says that I would have need of an Italian girl for sistemarmi...com unque the only negative thing to L.A is that the Italian food is not found…!!!

ESCLUSIVA: parla KEITH FOTI

All'età di diciotto anni.

Even though its musically variety, all 11 tracks simply melts into one
great soul grabbing experience. And like a great book it feels
absolutely terrible when you turn the last page.
This album is one that grows on you and still after about 10 times it
is simply just getting better.

"America" is one of the songs that makes me very curious how it would
be seeing you play live. No doubt it would be great. Love the
playing with the words in this one.

"Gloria" Extremely dark and very "walking outside in the snow, at
night, freezing, with nowhere to go" - that just popped into my mind.
Well, music is all about feelings isn't it?

"Blue Sky Rain" is so sweet and innocent and was a very good song to
put next after "Gloria".

"Not again" A favourite. I can link the lyric to parts of my own
life and I have to admit from the second time I heard it I've been
sinking really into it, singing and all. Knowing my self, you should
take that as a very good compliment. 1:48 min into the song comes this
guitar playing that sweep me off my feet and gives me a feeling I just
cannot describe, or rather will not (it would be embarrassing)

"Movin' On" would be a great hit on this island I live (Bokn) if I
brought it to one of the parties. And I will do the next time.

"The Distance Between Us" & "Behind Your Eyes" Love the guitar in
these one too, favourite too.

All in all, simply fell in love with the album and I am so glad I
didn't miss out on it. And I will do my best to inform people about
you. I have put a link to your page on the Internet community I'm a
member of and I will bring the CD to a few music dealers I know and
see if they are interested in taking it in.
Too few people actually read the lyrics, but I do, and I have to say
you are quite poetic. Beautiful combination of words of choice.
I don't have the best sound system, but the one I have is over whats
normal in most homes here, and the studio work comes out great. Good
details and all, no disturbing elements even if I play it quite loud.

I am not very good with criticism really, especially because of the
language. Hope it doesn't seem to weird. But I think it must be
interesting for you to get feedback on your work like me on my
sculpturing.

Have a wonderful day Keith, and thank you very much for the music! Great work!

Regards,
Suzanne

The Players: Keith Foti, vocals, guitar; Raymond Horwitz, keyboards; Nick Snow, bass; Cary Kane, drums.

Material: Once upon a time in Los Angeles, music scenesters knew what “skinny-tie powerpop” meant. Foti and his band look like a flashback to that scene, but the music doesn’t match up with the image. There was neither enough power nor pop in this set. If Foti wants to aim instead for a more classic progressive or techno sound, then he needs more Bruce Springsteen-like material. In whatever style he chooses, his present set does not contain material that makes audiences say, “I want to hear that one again.”

Musicianship: If the intention of Foti’s band is to rock, they should consider playing with more intensity than they do now. If they want to deliver a melodic cocktail set, then they should consider adding more hooks to their material. Once a direction is decided upon, then maybe some distinctive songs will emerge.

Performance: If an entertainer doesn’t getcha from the get-go, it’s likely to make for an unsatisfactory performance overall. As it is, the songs didn’t catch fire, and neither did the performance. If Foti wants to do more with his music then he’s going to have to work harder to earn new fans in this very competitive town.

Summary: Foti said he used to be a hairdresser who wanted to make a record. Now that he’s made a CD, he needs to set a new goal. If he wants to make another CD, he should consider focusing on developing his ability to make his songs memorable as a writer and a performer. Both his songwriting and his performing abilities do require much more development if this artist wants to reach another level.
